FEBRUARY 2015

The last quarter of every year is the busiest for our congregation in Warrenpoint. It starts with our Harvest Thanksgiving Service on the first Sunday in October. This year our guest preacher was the Moderator, the Rt Rev Paul Reid. As usual the congregation was made up of members from our sister churches in Newry and Banbridge and other local churches in the district, as well as our own members. The praise was led by Warrenpoint Silver Band under their conductor, Mr Maurice McCabe. This year two of the band members also provided the special harvest music, as Miss Sarah Thompson sang two solos accompanied on the keyboard by Mr Matthew Dodds.

Our Autumn Communion Service was held a month later on Sunday, 2nd November, when 17 members gathered around the Lordís Table.

Our next special service was held on Sunday, 7th December, when once again the praise was led by Warrenpoint Silver Band and Miss Sarah Thompson sang two carols as a solo item accompanied by Mr Matthew Dodds. Our Moderator was present and he dedicated a new Communion Table, manufactured by Mr Kenneth Wharton Junior, to match the existing Lectern which is made from oak. This Table was the gift of the Rev Hutton and Mrs Doris Hutton. The special offering was donated to the Southern Area Hospice Services. The day before the service several of the ladies were present to decorate the church and prepare for the refreshments. We wish to thank everyone for all the effort they put into preparing our lovely old church for the Harvest and Carol Services, especially our good friend Mrs Charlotte Holmes for all her help.

The congregation is in good heart as it looks forward to 2015 in the hope of being awarded grants to repair the exterior of the building. We are delighted that those members who were hospitalised are now returned to good health and are back regularly worshipping with us.

If any of our readers happen by chance to be in Warrenpoint on the first or third Sunday of each month, why not make your way to Burren Road for our 3.30pm service, where you will be made most welcome.

I give you a new commandment: love one another; as I have loved you, so you are to love one another. If there is this love among you, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.

John 13:34-35

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
